Most of the agate mortars which you see are made from Chinese or Indian agate stone with a hardness of only 6-6.5 and was marked as 6-7. Our agate stone is imported from Brazil which is the best agate stone in the world and has hardness of 7.0-7.2. Therefore, our agate mortars' polishing time and cost are much higher than those "soft" agate ones. Please understand that the bottom of the agate mortar is not fine polished to improve grip friction. We have other sizes (from 0.5 inch to 1 foot) available.
